Update #9 - addon October 3rd, 2001
Here's something extra for the html-guru's :
If you have a cjb.net redirection url, then you can also link directly to your files using that link. For example, if you want to reach the file testfile.zip, you have to link to http://yoursitename.cjb.net//testfile.zip. Note the double //'s in front of the filename.

I just figured it out. I was trying to let people bookmark past the entering screen, and I noticed a missing '/' when i linked to http://subspaceguide.cjb.net/index2.html (click the link to see what happens). So I just added a '/' and it worked! woohoo :)

Update #9 October 3rd, 2001
As usual, it took me a lot longer than planned to finish the new update. Next to the usual excuses such as school and work, I must add that I have been playing more SS than usual, and I've also started playing the new Return To Castle Wolfenstein demo. A great game if you ask me.

Here's something that kind of amazed me. A while ago, a couple of people started an SS Top 50 list (like the voting sites you see for warez pages), and I signed up for it. Today I looked for the first time, and some people even clicked on the tiny link in the left frame :) Although it's questionable if one should value the listing on that site, I'm pleased to see this site ranked #3 :)

Well anyway, here's what I changed :

  • I re-arranged the links in the left frame, and I added a bunch of new ones. All the big sites are linked to now. If you want a link to your site (no squad sites please), just mail me.
  • Made some small modifications to the Weaponry, Dictionary, Zone Reviews, Download and Tech F.A.Q pages.
  • I added the Need Help? section, which will guide you to the appropriate site/person if you have a problem of some kind.

  • This brings the whole site up to date for now. In the next update I'm going to add some more Zone Reviews, and I will be expanding the Tech F.A.Q. If I have time left I will also add some zone specific strategy guides to the Strategy section.

The amount of hits this site gets has been going up steadily. I now get 420 a week on average (=60 a day), which is not bad I think. I don't know if all of these hits are unique, so I will add a poll to get some info on that, as well as more feedback. Until then, keep sending in those suggestions.

    Update #8 July 9th, 2001
School has taken it's toll again. I didn't have much time to work on this page, and therefore I only added a Strategy section. It covers the gap between the total newbie and the intermediate player, which means that it's interesting for newbies and mostly old news for other players. It's not really big yet, but we'll fix that in the next update .

It's not really related to this site, but I can't resist "promoting" my Continuum skin here. It should also appear in the Download Central and the SSHQ skins page soon. Tell me what you think about it.

I'll be hanging out in Canada for 3.5 weeks. As I am not planning on working on this guide in my vacation, you'll have to wait a while until the next update. I'm leaving tomorrow, so please refrain from sending me emails with large attachments until I get back :)

I also noticed that somehow the wrong bar.html file got uploaded. I think I did that a while ago when I accidentally uploaded files to the wrong folder. I had to upload the files again, including the wrong bar.html file. As a result, you have been looking at a pile of dead links in the strategy menu, sorry 'bout that.

  • So what's in for the next update?

  • Since the site is pretty much complete already, I won't be adding any new sections. I will instead improve the current sections, like the Zone reviews page and the Dictionary. I might come up with some new ideas, but that's something you'll see when the update is there. Other suggestions are appreciated!

I will be gone from July 10th till August 3rd. I'm going to spend three weeks with a couple of friends driving around in east-Canada, so if you happen to see four whacko's in a big fwd Ford, don't hesitate and say hello :).

    Update #7 February 21st, 2001
    Here's what I changed :

The Getting started page has been changed into a How to Install page. I have added the Online Support section to help you solve the most common problems you encounter when installing SubSpace.

I have been changing some minor details on several pages, and I have been adding links to relevant items on those pages. I've also updates the HTML code on a couple of pages in the weaponry section. MSIE and netscae didn't bother to notify me of the two tags that were missing, but Opera did. I've checked every page with that browser, and everything seems to be ok now.

Also changed the starting page, nothing fancy. I fixed a couple of animated GIF files, which would animate way too fast on linux systems. The delay between the frames should have been 10ms, but it was accidentally set to 0ms. I didn't notice because MSIE doesn't go faster than 10ms, but since some linux systems do, they animate the file as fast as they can. This is now fixed :)

With the new client on it's way, I have been busy making the offline guide for it. That's what I will be working on in the next few weeks, meaning that this guide will see little or no changes.

After the offline guide is finished, I will (hopefully) begin with a brand-new strategy section, which will contain some basic info, and a specific strategy for several zones (starting with the ones listed in the zone reviews page).

The next thing I want to update is the Commands and Controls pages. I'm not really satisfied with the layout, and the order in which the commands are listed isn't really perfect either. This will probably be dealt with in the next update.

And as always, if you happen to see any errors, typo's, dead links, things missing, or piles of unidentifiable substances that El Sheepo left lying around, please let me know!

    Update #6 - SSGuide V2.0 November 23rd, 2000
Finally another update. Here's what I changed:

  • I made some nice images of all this ships on the entering screen. Those of you who have been here before probably already noticed. I also patched up the "Subspace" text at the top ; it now looks nice even in lower resolutions.
  • The reviews page. Added new zones and more text, and I gave it all a facelift.
  • The Weaponry page now also contains the stuff that was on the Special Objects page before.
  • Patched up the Controls page. There were quite a few errors, and some keys were listed twice.
  • Updated the Dictionary. I added about 20 new items, and I changed some other slightly.
  • The links in the left frame have been updated. Links to dead or useless pages were removed, and a few were added. I've also added a couple of links to other newbies guides.
  • Added the Screen Items page.

Besides all that, I've been removing some minor errors from other pages. I hope that most of them are gone now, especially the annoying typo's. If you happen to see broken links, typo's or other errors, then don't be shy and tell me!. I can't find them all on my own.

I am planning on having a poll, so you guys can tell me what you think is missing on this site. Until then, you can always mail me your suggestions by clicking on my name below.

P.S. ; I slightly changed the name of the guide... I didn't like the old name for some reason:)

P.P.S ; This guide is getting about 80 hits a day now! w00t!

    New update coming - addon - November 9th, 2000
You'll have to wait for another two weeks till I finish the update. I kept coming across additional things to change, and therefore I didn't get to do what I planned to do.

Mid-term exams are starting next week, and since I'm not eager to fail for one of those I'll be spending most of my time studying. The last one is next thursday, and after that I'll do my best to finish the guide before the thursday after that.

See you in two weeks :)

New update coming October 2nd, 2000
I am working on a new update. I will be revamping a couple of pages to make improve the readability, and I will play around with some of te pages to make things more organized.

The zone reviews page will be the page that gets the most attention. I haven't changed much since I uploaded this guide, so it's about damn time :). I probably won't be adding zones yet (maybe one or two), because I just want to make a new uniform design that allows a quick overview of a zone and it's characteristics.

The final thing that I'm going to add is a page with one large summary of all the items in subspace. I will add a zipfile that contains that page with all the images, so you can look at them offline. I will also post a printable txt file with all the commands in it.

You can expect this update in two or three weeks.

    Sorry August 17th, 2000
My apologies for the brief downtime. I was uploading this site to it's new domain, and I was simultaneously deleting the files at the old location. Because this server is nearly overloaded, I couldn't upload as fast as I wanted, and left you with a couple of error messages.

And for some reason, the index.html file of the old location was read-only. I uploaded a new file, but that file was simply discarded and I dind't get any errors. That's why you have been looking at an empty page multiple times.

    I hope this won't happen again :)

    Update #5 August 15th, 2000
The Getting Started page is finally done! It will guide you through the installation process, and it will solve alot of common problems. Before you go asking us on our Tech support BBS, you should check this page. You can solve alot of problems with it.

The site was also moved to a new domain. Thanks to Minbari Warship, it is now hosted at http://www.subspacehq.com/ssguide. If you haven't bookmarked this site, then do that now!.

So far for this update. The next update will include :
  • More SubSpace related files to download. Probably just a copy of the SSHQ download area.
  • A detailed description of all ships in all zones.
  • More zone reviews ; the existing ones will contain more information.

  • That's all for now. If you have any unanswered questions, then feel free to mail me by clicking on my name below.

    Update #4 July 13th, 2000
Small update this time, mainly because the tech support site has gone down for unknown reasons. I think everything stored there was lost, so no large online FAQ will be posted on this site. Maybe in the future, but for now I will just focus on a Getting Started page. It will contain answers to things commonly asked by new players. This should keep things running smooth till I get something bigger and better online.

Personally I think new players are the future for any game. People will get bored eventually and they will quit playing, and that's why we need new players to keep this game alive. No tech support means no new players, since it's quite impossible to find out some things on your own. That's roughly why I made this guide, and that's what I keep updating it for. If you feel touched by this "emotional" statement, then don't just sit there but go advertise this game :)

    Additions to the site :

  • The number of chat channels you can have is now 10. There used to be a maximum of five, but since alot of people wanted to be on more than 5 channels at a time, it was changed.

  • A new obscenity filter has been installed. Obscene words won't be sent to you anymore if you have it on. It is by default turned on. To toggle it on/off, type ?obscene

  • You can now find the owner of a squad by typing ?squadowner squadname , where squadname is the name of the squad.

  • Type ?squad playername to find out what squad the player called playername is in.

  • Type ?squadgrant playername to give ownership of your current squad to the player named playername.

  • The ?lag command shows you your ping and packetloss statistics all at once.

The next update will include : the Getting Started page and a link to the new Tech Support Forum at SSHQ.

    Update #3 May 18th, 2000
The Dictionary is updated. Some additions and some corrections.

The Special Items page has been revamped. The layout has been changed, and some of the contents were modified. I also fixed a bunch of links that became invalid due to this change. If you notice that I missed one, please mail me right away.

The Zone Reviews page is also updated. Some minor changes, and a few small things that were added.

Added a http://subspaceguide.cjb.net redirection URL so you guys can finally remember the site's address :). I also created my very own banner for use in the CJB.net banner exchange program. Tell me what ya think :)

The Tech Support database will have to wait a little longer, at least till my exams are over. I could still use some help with that, so don't hesitate to contact me to do something for the game.

    Update #2 March 1st, 2000
My mid-term exams are finally over, so I finally found some time to work om my homepages again. Most of the time was spent for adding the following things to the SSGuide :

  • The Dictionary. It contains a list of almost every item in SubSpace. Equipped with a speed search bar, this page will give you information about any item. Every item also links to other parts of this guide that also describe the item.

  • The messageboards. They are part of SSHQ. I figured it wouldn't be good to spread all questions and suggestions between this site and the one at SSHQ, so I decided to link to their messageboards instead. There are lots of people reading the forum regularly (including me) and answering questions.

I also fixed some bugs in the left frame ; it seems like I accidentally uploaded the wrong file, which contained some non-existing links.
The next update I want to add a F.A.Q to the site. I will add questions posted on the Tech support BBS, making this F.A.Q. a huge online database of questions. I don't know yet how I am going to sort all that information and make it easy to find something, so any good ideas would be greatly appreciated. I don't mean having any automated scripts or stuff like that, just a general idea of the HTML layout. If you have any good ideas for me, please contact me.

    Errors corrected December 25th, 1999
The first major update. Errors on several pages have been corrected. I have added stuff to the Commands, Reviews and Special Items sections. The page about mines is updated. I have also added three messageboards, which can be found in the left frame.

The next thing I an going to add is a SubSpace dictionary. A description of terms like "lagger" and "packetloss" will be given, as well as all other items in this guide. It will probably take a while before it's done, since X-mas and Y2K will demand alot of my time :).

I also want to thank all the people who helped me with finding the errors. Most of the errors are fixed, but there still might be some things we overlooked. If you notice any errors, please notify me. Your help is appreciated. Special thanks to Priitk for promoting this site in his zone, Trench Wars.

Merry Christmas to all of you.

    It's finished! YAY! December 17th, 1999
I finally finished the guide! In the last few days, I've spent alot of time trying to finish in in time before the world would fall apart on 00-00-00 00:00:01.
(If that's too many 0's for you, just call it the very first second of the new millennium.)

Anyways.... 95% of everything that I planned to put in the guide is already added. There are still some minor things that need a bit of work, which I will take care of in the next few days.

I would like everyone visiting this site to spread the word about this site. I made it for the new players, but since those players never read any news sites they won't find out about this site. Also, any comment, suggestions, etc... are welcome. Your input is appreciated ; It will make this site better. Thanks....

    Nearing completion October 28th, 1999
School has been pretty tough for the last few months. I have finished/updated most of the pages, but didn't upload them yet. I am currently adding the final pages, and adding some zone reviews written by several veteran SubSpace players.

    -- UUDIBUUDI

Page is still under heavy construction September 9th, 1999
Updates will not occur frequently because it takes too long to upload just a tiny bit. I will upload large "chunks" instead. The next update will occur in about 3 days. Stay tuned :)

Do not email me about dead links. I know alot of the links don't work, and that's because the page isn't finished yet (duh).
