In SubSpace, the first thing you learn is how to control your ship. You learn to grab greens and you learn to fly smoothly around corners. You swiftly navigate through narrow bases and asteroid fields, and you're starting to get pretty good at dodging all the enemy fire. You have a nice win:loss ratio, and everything is fine. Or isn't it?

Alot of people stop here. Heck, alot of people don't even get to be this good, even though it's not too hard to do. It's a real shame, since SubSpace is so much more fun if you follow a certain strategy. This is especially true in team games like Powerball and Warzone. Thinking first before you do something is what makes a good player. It's true that good dueling skills are important in any zone, but that is almost never enough to win a game. We got brains, why not use them :)

SubSpace is divided into three general zone types, which I will describe below :

SVS zones
SVS stands for Standard Vie Settings. These settings were used in all of SubSpace at the time the game was being developed. Using these settings, each ship does have advantages and disadvantages, but in the end they are all equally strong. Get used to these settings first, and then you'll easily adapt to other settings as you explore the other zones.

One-shot-kill zones
One-shot-kill zones is just what it says : one shot is enough to kil someone. The majority of newbies flee to zones that have this type of settings because it's easy to kill someone.

Super zones
These are zones with pumped up settings. Ships fire a couple of bombs per second, and the zones are usually messy because of all these bombs. These zones are looked down upon by most ss players who consider these zones "skill-less".

League zones
These zones are simply there so squads can fight each other without the interference of others. You won't find anything interesting in here unless you are scheduled to fight yourself or if you want to watch a match.

For new players, the best place to start out is the Alpha Zone. This is a zone for beginners who want to practice a bit instead of being hammered by the more experienced players. Once you are familiar with the controls you should head to the Chaos zone where you can fight more experienced players.

After you're done slaughtering all those Chaos players, you will probably want a bigger challenge. You'll want to fight good players, people who excel at this game. Two zones with particular good players (mostly players who have been playing this game since beta) are Warzone and Powerball. If you think you're good, try playing for a while in one of those zones. Chances are that you will get your butt kicked :)
