Oconnor Domanic HA46 WarBird

WarBird banner
The Oconnor Domanic HA46 WarBird is the perfect choice for the average dogfighter. With it's superior thrust and rotation, it can defeat every other ship just by outmaneuvering them, provided that you are skilled enough to use it's agility to perfection.

When flying this ship, you should take advantage of asteroids and walls in your vicinity by bouncing off them to confuse and surprise your enemies. This is very effective as both an offensive and defensive strategy, and it is your key advantage when battling other ships. When facing another Warbird, your creativeness will decide whether you will win or lose. Use all your portals, bursts, repels, bricks and rockets if you must, because without specials, dogfights tend to end up in a 15 minute hit-and-run fight, after which one Warbird will get lucky and win. Being creative with your tools helps alot!

The easiest targets for a Warbird are Terriers, Lancasters, and if you manage to get close enough, Leviathans. The other ships are harder to pursue because of their cloaking devices (Spider, Shark), their EMP bombs (Weasel), or their superior speed (Javelins). If you keep in mind that you ahve the advantage in narrow passages and asteroid fields, you should be fine.

The Crummand FC-12/0 Javelin is basically a Warbird that has traded some rotation speed and thrust power for additional speed. It's dogfighting skills are average, but it's high speed enables it to take some shots at enemies and flee, or to endlessly pursue other ships till death do you part.

When flying this ship, your best chance of killing is to pick off players who are fighting someone else, or more preferably ships that are slower and "away from the pack". Stay at a distance, and keep charging them until you wear them down. When a charge fails, you can rely on your superior speed to keep you beyond your enemies' grasp, but keep in mind that they might use a rocket to close in on you!

The easiest targets for a Javelin are Lancasters, Sharks and Spiders. The Lancaster is weak in open space, and the cloakers are too sluggish to outrun or outmaneuver you (although the Shark can often be perilous). You should at all times stay away from Leviathans. You need to stay at a distance in order for your strategy to work, which is the perfect condition for Leviathans to make short work of you. If you spot a clumsy Leviathan though, don't hesitate and take them out, because they will often weaken themselves too much by wasting tons of energy on bombs.

LoakHaed RSC17 Spider

Spider banner
The LoakHaed RSC17 Spider is a pain in the nads for alot of players. Compared to the Warbird, this ship has sacrificed speed and agility so it could yield a powerful cloaking device. Using this device in combination with the stealth device will render your ship invisble both on screen as on radar. Although enemies can activate their Xradar to counter this, the invisibility allows for some spectacular ambushes and surprise assaults.

When flying this ship, you should stay clear from the main action, since you will alert other players when you set off one of their bombs or mines. Most people will forget to "ping" Xradar every now and then, but will start doing so once they suspect or know a cloaker is sneaking around. The element of surprise is your primary weapon, don't throw it away. Sneak up on players, fire a couple of rounds, disappear in the dark, and recharge to do it again. You can even frustrate or scare off experienced players with this strategy.

The easiest targets for the Spider are other Spiders and Leviathans. Other Spiders will probably have cloak engaged, and they will be dead before they know you are there, as they often forget to check Xradar. When sneaking up on Leviathans, you should try waiting till it fires a bomb. Make sure you are close to him, as the bomb will go off in his face. You will suffer almost no damage, while his energy will be reduced to near zero, and before he knows what set off the bomb you will already have reduced his precious vessel into space dust.

The Ivangrad Ut-59 Leviathan is the artilly unit amongst the ships in SubSpace. It's the slowest and least maneuverable ship of them all, but in return for this it's capable of firing Level3 bombs, the largest bomb next to the Thor's Hammer.

When flying this ship, your only chance of survival is to stay away from the action. Since your Level3 bombs will hurt yourself more than your opponents when fired from close range, you will only have your guns to aid you, and since you are the slowest ship around, you're definitely going to get your butt kicked. Instead of all this, you should fire your bombs from a safe distance at people who are attacking you. It's also very effective to fire at packs of blue dots ; people who are dogfighting usually forget to watch their radar for other incoming threats.

There is no "easiest target" for a Leviathan. All the ships are equally easy / hard to kill, although the more agile ships can dodge your bombs with greater ease. You should watch out for cloakers, since they can sneak up on you, wait until you fire a bomb (which will explode in your face, leaving you with almost no energy), and then finish you off with a bullet or two. When fighting other Leviathans, everything comes down to skill and creativity. Your portals are probably the best way to get close enough to give him the killer blow.

Blight Aerospace NU-34 Terrier

Terrier banner
The Blight Aerospace NU-34 Terrier is a ship designed for close combat, and also for combat in narrow structures. It's maneuverability and speed are about average, but it's twin guns make it a superior close-combat vessel.

When flying this ship, you obviously want to get close to your enemies to maximize the advantage of your twin guns. The Terrier is especially dangerous in tight structures, since the bullets bounce around and make dodging them very difficult. The Terrier is also a ship that is left alone when it's still collecting greens, because it can deal quite some damage with only a few upgrades.

You should keep away from Javelins, as those ships can escape too easily if they are badly damaged. Slower targets that fly around in narrow areas are the best targets. Leviathans in open space are usually a real pain to kill, but if you manage to get close to them using a portal, they should be quite defenseless.

The Yamakazi Sholi ZnK/O-1 Weasel is a ship well-suited for quick lightning strikes or very long battles. It's key advantage are it's EMP charged Level2 bombs, which will keep the opponents' ship from recharge for a short while (depending on how much damage he took from the bomb). Most people say "Hey, that's no big deal! just fly away and wait a bit!", but they are wrong. A well-hit EMP bomb causes more energy loss than any other weapon in SubSpace would do normally. Just factor in the energy that is lost due to an inability to recharge, and you've found yourself a very potent weapon.

When flying this ship, if you decide to do a "quick strike", you should use about three bullets and one bomb. This is generally enough to kill any ship, and as they can't recharge they are more vulnerable to damage than they would be if you had hit them using a different ship. Although the Weasel is not very maneuverable, it's still agile enough to chase the damaged opponent and deal the final points of damage (a Thor's Hammer usually does the trick).

The Weasel's defense strategy is to hit the opponent with an EMP bomb to force them to break off the attack due to a lack of energy. The few people that continue to attack put themselves in a very disadvantageous position, and they can easily be dealth with using a portal or droping mines. Ofcourse, if you are attackbed by several people, you can't possibly EMP them all continously, so you might want to avoid fighting more than two people at a time.

Avro 4F/2 HMS Lancaster

Lancaster banner
The Avro 4F/2 HMS Lancaster is a ship which thrives well in tunnels and medium sized structures. It's single bouncing bombs allow you to shoot at people who can't possibly shoot back. You can also use this to your advantage when you are dueling in a "chamber" by running away and firing bombs straight at a wall. Unsuspecting opponents will likely follow you with their guns plazing, only to run into two bombs coming at them with full speed. Add a well-timed mine to all this and you've got yourself a kill.

When flying this ship, you should stick close to structures to lure your opponent into, or asteroid fields to hide in when you are in trouble. If you want to try something else, then I suggest you try packing a warbird turret full of Lancasters. Wheter you are charging into packs of enemies or running away from them instead doesn't matter ; you can shoot bombs at them in any case. Note that if you use a Warbird to attach to another ship, your Warbird is basically a Lancaster without the advantage of bouncing bombs!

Defending yourself is your key advantage, and that's exactly what your offensive strategy uses : it tries to lure enemies into chasing you. To use this as best as you can, you should try to look vulnerable. Put yourself in aslightly disadvantageous position, plan your escape route, and plan where you are going to fire your bombs at. Happy hunting!

The Lezarwerks SY/9 Shark is basically a cloaked Warbird. It has slightly more energy, it has a "cheaper" stealth device, but it's rotation is slower, it costs a bit more to drop a mine, and it's cloaking device costs three times as much energy compared to the Spider. Despite this, it's still a very potent dueling ship that will often beat Warbirds in combat. Sneaking up on players and chasing them after you decloak is becoming more and more interesting with this ship.

When flying this ship, you can basically act like a Warbird would, or you can try to be as sneaky as the Spider : it's totally up to you. Keep in mind though that you are very vulnerable when your cloaking device is on, since it drains such large amounts of energy. When you get hit by something, don't be afraid to decloak and blow your cover, or you might end up dying to a leftover bomb or mine.

Defending yourself is rather easy since you are very agile. You can cling to the edges of walls like the warbird can, and outmaneover your enemy that way. You can also turn on your cloaking device and run away, hoping that your enemy runs low on energy because he needs to shoot and use his Xradar. As you usually won't have much energy to spare when you are running away, this is the first option is usually the better one. However, if you happen to find an asteroid field you can simply hide there like all the other ships do :)
